How To Optimize A Website

It is important knowing how to optimize a website, as search engine optimization (SEO) is a key factor in being found in search engines. It is also not a one-time process, as it requires continual monitoring and fine tuning during further development of a site especially. There are many aspects to consider when it comes to a websites optimization, with search engine spiders which will soon find your website along with pages and posts. When looking to position for rank of any page, the search engine spiders will look at the relevance and the more relevant the content then the closer toward the top of search engine results. The full process of search engine optimization, takes in both on page SEO, and off page SEO, but firstly the website meta tags, which includes verifying your domain with the likes of Google and Bing.

An example of the meta tags necessary toward the website optimization, which are placed in the head section of the html file or document within the websites script. These meta tags will not be visible to the visitor, as remain hidden from the make-up of the code, but with the likes of WordPress based scripts, all you’ll need to enter is the relevant text such as in the description and title sections of an SEO plugin. This makes it easy to optimize your site or individual pages, but for many others, you may need to locate the header document, check for the following while adding or editing the meta tags and title.

<head>

< meta charset=“UTF-8”>

Website Name Or Title Of Page

< meta name=“description” content=“An accurate description of your page or post.”>

< meta name=“keywords” content=“Keyword1,Keyword2”>

<meta name=“author” content=“Webmaster”>

</head>

Include the verification meta tags from all four, Bing, Yandex, Alexa and Google Webmasters with the meta tags going in the head section as above.

Another tag to check for is the alt tag ie:  alt=”business logo” , as all pictures should have one with a short description or title placed in this tag and to help with the page optimization.

Work Around Keywords To Optimize A Website

When it comes to the keywords you must work with to optimize a website, these are those key words which are relevant to your on-page content, being the text, and then by analyzing the page looking toward your products, services, or the focal point itself as mentioned in a particular post in question. It is also better for the purpose of SEO, to create more pages for each specific services or set of products, than what it is to only have a few, while describing and offering everything your company may do in a single page. Another point to make, is to include your keywords in the title of your post, page and main title extension with the same keywords appearing in tags, the Permalink or URL and or headers wherever possible. Search engine spiders or crawlers, are looking for the consistency from back to front, and with the content optimization along with the meta tags briefly describing the same content, then your website will rank higher upon doing so.

The URL Structure

If you have the option of modifying or creating the permalinks before posting, then take into consideration of the URL structure, and the more readable it is by humans, then the better. Search engines also prefer a URL which is easier to understand, and when creating your posts or websites pages, be sure to include your keywords for that specific post or page. Also work toward SEO friendly URLs, which will rank better over an ugly URL, as many call them, although most scripts these days do allow the webmaster to create the links how they choose with added advantages of the additional category or tag related to the topic. A few things to note, is ensuring their are no underscores, to remove or control unwieldy punctuation characters and the overuse of keywords in the URL itself.

Create An XML Sitemap

The creation of the sitemap.xml file, which is a list of the URLs within your site, navigates search engine spiders on arrival, and whether your site is large or small, it is recommended to have one in place. You can also use the sitemap to provide search engines with metadata about any specific types of content on your web pages, such as images, video and mobile content. As the site grows, then the sitemap will have to as well, and it’s also good practice for the benefit of your posts or product pages to update as soon as possible to ensure all pages are crawled and indexed accordingly.
